HOUSTON, TEXAS, February
18, 2004 – The value of a
bell pepper plant increased $3.00 per plant when treated
with Satisfy® revealed a recent research study conducted
at the Texas Agricultural Experiment Station in Weslaco,
Texas. Conducted in conjunction with Stoller Enterprises,
the research shows Satisfy assists plants in fighting stresses
from climatic conditions. The report showed improved plant
health, increased yield and higher quality fruit were benefits
found in bell peppers treated with Satisfy.
The findings substantiate
research studies conducted over the last three years by Stoller
that indicate enhancing a
plant’s health maximizes its genetic potential. Satisfy,
a natural plant growth enhancer product, is produced and
distributed by Stoller. “Stoller has been working on a system of plant modeling
in order to determine how crops are affected by the changes
in the environment, including temperature, moisture and natural
plant shading during the growth process,” says Jerry
Stoller, president of Stoller Enterprises.
Researchers found
the weight of the bell peppers doubled on plants treated
biweekly with 12 ounces of Satisfy, versus
untreated plants. Treated peppers weighed 563.3 grams and
only 283.0 grams on untreated plants. In addition, the quality
of peppers greatly increased, with the treated plants producing
twice as many Fancy and Grade 1 peppers. More than 77 percent
of peppers from plants treated with Satisfy met the Fancy
or Grade 1 status versus 36.7 percent from untreated plants.
According
to Stoller, the increased weight and improved grading of
the pepper plants treated with Satisfy increase the value
of each plant approximately $3.00 over the untreated plants.
Based on normal planting rates of 3,000 plants to 3,500 plants
per acre, the use of Satisfy could increase the value of
an acre of pepper plants $9,000, explained Stoller.
In addition
to the value added through increased fruit production, the
plant’s overall quality improved. The root weight
of plants treated with Satisfy more than doubled when compared
to untreated plants. Treated plants displayed roots weighing
27.7 grams, compared to untreated plants with root weights
of 13.4 grams. Plant diameter increased 47 percent on plants
treated with Satisfy and plant heights increased 23 percent.
The
study also revealed the pepper plants treated with Satisfy
displayed 50 percent fewer sucking insects compared to
untreated plants. The insects include green peach aphids,
cotton aphids,
sweet potato whiteflies, thrips and leafhoppers.
