NEW ORLEANS (Jan. 6, 2005) — New research indicates
cotton farmers may have a new tool to increase overall yield,
lint quality, and return on investment, while protecting
their crops against Mother Nature.
Dr. Albert Liptay, research director of StollerUSA, presented
the promising results of recent research regarding the effect
of Sugar Mover, a Crop Health Therapy product, on cotton
crops at this year’s Beltwide Cotton Conference, Jan.
4 – 7 in New Orleans.
The exploratory research conducted
on four test plots near Lubbock, Texas, by Steve Becton,
a cotton farmer and StollerUSA’s
High Plains regional manager, discovered that cotton crops
drip-irrigated with one pint of Sugar Mover once a week for
six weeks beginning at first bloom increased overall lint
yield by an average of 107 pounds per acre compared with
untreated crops. The treated crops also yielded a return
on investment $80 per acre higher than untreated crops. “These tests reveal promising results for crops treated
with Sugar Mover,” said Becton. “Sugar Mover-treated
cotton showed increased flowering, reduced crop height, increased
boll set, and sequential sizing of bolls compared with the
untreated plots. Cotton growers are continually looking for
cost-effective options to increase their overall lint yield
and quality for each boll. Stoller’s Sugar Mover provides
a cost-effective solution and enhanced return on investment
that cotton growers are looking for.”
“Our Crop Health Therapy products allow cotton plants
to achieve more of their genetic potential by increasing
genetic expression,” explained
Liptay. “By reversing the flow of sugars in the plant,
Sugar Mover enables the crop to experience stronger reproductive
growth until harvest, enhancing overall lint yield and quality.”
Crop
Health Therapy takes the guesswork out of maintaining healthy
crops by maintaining appropriate hormone balance
inside the plant during the different stages of growth. This
allows the roots to thrive, resulting in healthier plants
better able to withstand stress and reach their full genetic
potential. StollerUSA manufactures and markets Crop Health
Therapy products designed for a plant’s specific needs
throughout the four stages of plant growth: germination,
vegetative growth, flowering, and maturity.
