2012 Farm Progress Show has Arrived!

Wednesday, August 22nd, 2012

The weather is finally cooling down, tractors and combines are tuning up and farmers are prepping for the long hours of harvest ahead – It’s the end of summer, fall is coming and that’s a sure sign that Farm Progress Show is near.

StollerUSA will be in full force in Boone, IA this year, August 28-30. Located again in the VIT Tent – Booth #9102 the Stoller space will be overflowing with Progressive Growers, technical experts and sales reps sharing the benefits of Stoller’s plant performance products. PLUS sign up to win a Stoller test plot on your farm!!

Stop by and listen as growers from across the nation explain how their Stoller program has helped minimize stress during this dreadful growing season. World record soybean grower Kip Cullers, Steven Albracht from the Texas panhandle and Jason Watson located in the Corn Belt are just a few of the farmers you can visit with as you stop by the booth.

Corn and soybean plants from local customers’ fields will be present to compare control to Bio-Forge ST plants. Examine how the products protect against stress and help build a large, robust root system allowing maximum nutrient uptake – vital in the drought we’ve all seen.

Already planning for 2013 or getting ready to plant winter wheat soon? Make sure to talk with our R&D crew about treating with Bio-Forge ST for early emergence protection and proper nutrient uptake. As we all know stress is one of the biggest hindrances on our fields today. Protect your crop before the stress hits with Bio-Forge ST. Get the full details while visiting the Farm Progress booth.

While you are talking plant health let the kids have some fun too! In an instant they can become Progressive Super Heroes. This year children of all ages (and adults too) can pose in our Progressive Grower photo opp. Just stop by the booth and let the lovely ladies take your picture that you can then share with all your friends or print for your frame at home!

And of course make sure to continue to stop by here as we update you with all the happenings at the show!

Drought in the Corn Belt? Survive & Thrive Like these Iowa Growers!

Wednesday, August 22nd, 2012

As well all know the Corn Belt was hit hard by this summer’s drought. As we travel to North Central Iowa the results are evident everywhere we turn. A few growers are in the field chopping corn while others are holding out hoping for some miracle to save their crop. Stoller stopped by two farming operations about an hour and half apart – both are dealing with tough climatic challenges this growing season.

Mike Gaul, near Strawberry Point, was our first stop. A first year Stoller customer he’s impressed by how long his fields held out during the drought. Receiving about a quarter of the rain normally received in northern Iowa Mike could tell the Bio-Forge treated corn and soybeans stayed greener longer and roots were robust and healthy. An agronomist by trade, Mike sees things through a different eye compared to most growers. Rejoining his family operation a few years ago his focus is reducing stress and managing plant health to produce the healthiest crop around, and he feels Stoller’s program has helped save his crop this year.

The next day the crew traveled south of Des Moines to Amana Colonies where we met up with Dave Cunningham, Crop Production Manager at Amana Farms. With thousands of tourists visiting the colonies each year Dave faces expectations unlike most growers. A unique end user provides another difficult challenge for Amana Farms. Growing food grade white corn and non-GMO soybeans for cereal and oatmeal companies in central Iowa make applying certain crop chemicals a sometimes “sticky” situation.

Amana Farms have used Stoller products for a couple growing seasons and plan on increasing their Stoller product line next year after seeing ear and pod size increase even with very little rain. A stretch of five to seven days with triple digit weather didn’t help the crops either. Dave explained that in a normal growing season they normally see temperatures peak in the mid 90’s for a week and that’s as hot as it gets. Many neighboring farms are struggling to even make a crop this year. Amana Farms will be harvesting earlier than scheduled due to the lack of rain, but thanks to Stoller’s Bio-Forge and other plant performance products there will be a crop to harvest.

Check back for more details on these and other progressive growers as we continue our trek across the country visiting innovative farmers looking to take their yields to the next level.

Record-Breaking Corn Yields in Drought-Stricken Region? Progressive Growers in Arkansas Bring it Home!

Thursday, August 9th, 2012

When developing crop management programs to help achieve record-breaking corn yields growers Billy Tripp and Perry Galloway didn’t expect the extreme drought and heat conditions that developed in 2012.

Initial growing conditions were ideal and the crops got in ahead of schedule.  But with no rain fall for over 13 weeks and temperatures that stayed in the triple digits for weeks at a time, all Arkansas farmers were struggling to keep their crops viable.

On August 1st Tripp and Galloway cut their  contest acres. Initial reports show that both were able to break the last years state irrigated corn record of 268.47 bu/acre by over 20 bu/acre.  From the broader perspective, both growers were able to achieve a 130 bu/acre increase over the state average corn yield of 157 bu/acre.  Note: Official Results Announcement Pending.

Using different seed brands and hybrids, Galloway and Tripp credit some of their high yield success to taking a proactive crop management approach using Stoller Technology– including Bio-Forge®.

Here’s a quick overview of these amazing farmers and their crop.

Billy Tripp : Tripp Farm

Searcy, AR          2000 Acres: Corn, Soybeans, Peanuts         Irrigated

Stoller Products Used:  Bio-Forge, X-Cyte™, X-Tra Power™,  Sugar Mover™

Observations: Consistent high yields across all fields…not just in contest plot area. Corn plants are tall with sturdy stalks and large root mass. Ears are filled to the tip. Top stalks and leaves remain green and viable at time of harvest.

Perry Galloway : Galloway Farm

Gregory, AR          8000 Acres: Corn, Soybeans, Rice          Irrigated

Owner/Operator of Broadview Aviation

Stoller Products Used: Bio-Forge, X-Cyte™, X-Tra Power™,  Sugar Mover™

Observations: Multiple applications of Stoller Products. Galloway flies all his crop management products on his crop. Stoller products are mixed right in with his fungicide, herbicide and pesticide. Low rate and compatibility make it easy and efficient to use. Corn plants are tall with sturdy stalks and large root mass. Ears are filled out the tip. Top of stalks an leaves are still green and viable.

Interest in Stoller’s Bio-Forge® strong at Hefty Farm Field Day

Monday, August 6th, 2012

On July 27th farmers gathered in Baltic South Dakota to see a variety of agricultural advancements at work in the fields. Everything from drainage tile issues and the latest mapping softward technology to ag chemical advancements.

Guest speakers, like Dave Hula the Virginia farmer that achieved a 429 bu/acre corn yield in 2011, were there to discuss new technologies and best practices. ( Stoller products, including Bio-Forge®,  were a part of Dave’s 2012 Crop Management program. )

Not surprisingly the recent news about Progressive Growers using Stoller technology drove a lot of folks to our booth to discuss how Bio-Forge might help them achieve better yields …and a better bottom line.
We were able to visit with farmers from as far away as Washington State and Pennsylvania. And while their climates and hybrid selections vary the need to manage crop stress is a common denominator with all farmers trying to push profit margins and yields.   We shared recent University and field trial data to explain the technology behind Stoller’s plant performance products.

Next year we look forward to having actual plots at the Hefty Farm so participants will be able to walk through the field and see the physical difference and improved plant health in crops treated with Stoller technology.
